Workshop: 5 Days
Monday-Friday August 20-24, 2012

www.bjornrunquist.com

Artists Björn and Tollef Runquist will team up to host a 5 day painting workshop this summer, August 19-24, 2012, in Clark Island, on the beautiful Saint George peninsula. Both artists are widely recognized in Maine and beyond: Björn Runquist’s work can be seen at Gleason Fine Art in Portland and Boothbay, Horton Hays in Charleston, SC. and Landing Gallery in Rockland, Me. Tollef Runquist’s work can be seen at Dowling Walsh Gallery in Rockland, Me. While working in quite different manners the two artists (father and son) share a passion for painting and the immediacy of working on site as well as in the studio. The workshop will be an introduction to the basics of plein-air painting, focusing on the dynamics of building a painting and the techniques of alla prima painting as well as employing the same techniques to paint from digital photos. Particular emphasis will be on capturing a sense of light and its use as a compositional element.

Last summer's workshops went very well. Full house at the Craignair Inn. Everyone had a great time. The workshops at Great River Institute in Damariscotta and The Rock Gardens Inn also went very well. This year I will again be giving a workshop at the Rock Gardens Inn the last weekend in June - check out the website of the Rock Gardens Inn.

My annual exhibition at the Ocean View Grange will be August 3-5, 2012, the first weekend in August this year.

I have just published a book, available on Blurb at http://www.blurb.com/search/site_search?search=Seeing+the+Familiar&filter=bookstore&commit=Search

I was in the April issue of Maine Home and Design: the "Art Issue: 60 artists to buy while you can still get them" and there is a nice article about me in the August issue of the same magazine.(www.mainehomedesign.com)

- The April issue of "Maine Home + Design" (www.mainehomedesign.com) has included me in their selection of artists to watch.

- The show at Bachelier Cardonsky was a good success. Unfortunately, they have decided to close after 20 years in Kent. Happily, I have joined Morrison Gallery and they will have some of my work up on their website soon. Samples of the new "River" Paintings are on my website. They represent work of the past year.

I was featured in the Fall 2009 issue of Maine Food and Life Styles magazine. It's a nice informal piece about me, my work, my love for painting and for cooking!
